MINOT — Selectmen unanimously appointed James Allen as fire chief Monday night, a few days after firefighters elected him for the position.

He replaces Dean Campbell, who resigned Jan. 29.

Allen, whose term is one year, is chief of medical services for Minot, and has a history with the Fire Department.

Selectmen told him they need transparency from the department.

Allen agreed it’s important and said he wants residents and the board to know what the deparatment is doing.

“There was a lack of communication between the chief and deputy chief for the last eight years,” Allen said.

In other business, Dave Elliot of Joe Town Road asked if it could be fixed. The used the section near his barn to turn plows around, so it’s very worn out and made worse by recent storms, he said.

“I realize you can’t do it now, but when it dries up, maybe May,” Elliot said.

Town Administrator Arlan Saunders said he and Highway Supervisor Scott Parker would look at it to see what can be done.

Saunders also said the truck approved for purchase at the town meeting three weeks ago has been ordered.

He also reminded residents that lien notices will be sent in May.
