U.S. Sen. Susan Collins is given a tour of a downtown apartment building by landlord Jay Allen on Blake Street in Lewiston on Tuesday. Allen and his work crew are renovating 16 units among two buildings. “This project would not have happened without lead money,” Allen said. Collins stopped in Lewiston on Tuesday to help celebrate a $1.3 million Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, a program that aims to provide a comprehensive approach to revitalization projects, including lead abatement. “If it was not for the lead program, this building would have been knocked down,” Allen said.
