FARMINGTON — Police said a local woman is accused of opening a bank account with a counterfeit check for more than $10,000 and withdrawing all the money before the scam was detected.

Torey L. Seymour-Russell, 57, of Farmington was arrested Thursday by Officer Darin Gilbert on a felony charge of theft by deception, Deputy Police Chief Shane Cote said Friday.

She was booked at the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington and released on bail Friday, according to a corrections officer.

Gilbert began an investigation last week after receiving a complaint, Cote said.
