STRONG — Selectmen on Tuesday authorized Treasurer Sandra Mitchell to pay Hight Chevrolet $26,396 for a new one-ton truck chassis.

Highway Department Foreman Duayne Boyd said the body will be approximately $57,000, and he anticipates delivery soon.

Selectmen also approved hiring Jeff Allen to complete the $3,500 worth of lighting improvements in the town garage and pole barn.

According Selectman Mike Pond, the liaison for the Highway Department, the estimated $1,700 cost for ductwork in the garage could more because of the surcharge on materials. He said Webster’s Heating had given the town a bid, and he’d like to see the job finished.

“It might be another $100 or $150 more on the aluminum, because of the new surcharge,” Pond said. “Sometimes you have to pay $100 or more to get it done, instead of not getting it done.”

Selectmen also awarded the $8,950 summer mowing contract to David Adams of  Sandy River Lawn Care.

“I suggest we accept (Adams’) offer,” board Chairman Dick Worthley said. “He’s done a great job, and things always look nice.”

Selectmen reviewed and signed the list of elected officials and appointees for 2018. Five positions remain vacant: two Appeals Board members, a Planning Board member and a Planning Board alternate, and one ministerial trustee.

Those interested in the positions should contact the Town Office at 207-684-4002.

Selectman reviewed the situation Boyd faces in confronting drivers with heavy loads using posted roads.

The town does not have a constable.

According to Pond, Boyd shouldn’t have to deal with truck drivers who flaunt the law. The town should establish a policy to deal with truck drivers who damage roads, he said.

“We have to have something that’s clear that we’re going to hold (violators) responsible for the damage,” Pond said.

In other matters, selectmen approved awarding the Boston Post Cane plaque to the town’s oldest resident, Dorris Brackley. They will announce a date for the presentation.
