PARIS — A West Paris man charged with assaulting another man with a glass bottle was released from jail Monday after posting $500 bail.

Lyndon Proulx, 24, was charged Sunday with aggravated assault, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.

According to the arrest affidavit by Norway police officer Daniel Brown, he received a call from a woman who said her boyfriend was assaulted by Proulx with a glass bottle at their residence on Morrill Street.

The victim’s girlfriend said that she, her boyfriend, Proulx and several other friends were socializing at their house when her boyfriend asked the guests to leave.

Proulx and the others refused and when the victim insisted, Proulx lunged at him, according to the affidavit.

The victim’s girlfriend said her boyfriend threw a punch at Proulx in self-defense, and the two began to fight off and on over the next 10 minutes.

Brown wrote that at some point, the victim entered his vehicle and Proulx and another man approached it and tried to get the victim to fight.

When the victim didn’t respond, Proulx pulled out a glass Budweiser bottle and hit the victim “three or four times in the head,” Brown wrote.

The victim was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital to be evaluated.

When Brown and other police officers found Proulx and talked to him, Proulx admitted to fighting with the victim but denied hitting him with a bottle.

Proulx’s next court date is scheduled for June 20.
