NORWAY — Selectmen have approved a permit for the Norway Music & Arts Festival, planned for Saturday, July 14.
The event has operated in the past as the Norway Arts Festival but this year will include music, Town Manager Dennis Lajoie said.
Norway Downtown, a nonprofit organization seeking to revitalize Main Street, hired Sumner resident Jonathan Leavitt to coordinate the festival activities, Lajoie said.
Leavitt told selectmen that the festival would run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with Main Street closing from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Lajoie told the board that Police Chief Rob Federico had no problem with the proposed schedule.
The board also approved an application for the Norway Farmers Market to sell craft beer when it starts in May.
Pat Martin, representing the Farmers Market, told the board that Drumming Grouse Brewing in South Bridgton was looking to sell craft beer but would not allow tasting.
She said the brewery has already joined markets in Waterford, Casco and Harrison.
“We have to be approved by the state first, and in order to be approved by the state, the town has to approve us first,” Martin said.
