TURNER — The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Monday night to sell the road paver, which hasn’t been used for a few years. 

Town Manager Kurt Schaub said the town doesn’t have a crew to operate it.

The board agreed to solicit bids for the machine.

The town has an arrangement with Spencer Group Paving of Turner.

While going over expenses, Schaub said the transfer and recycling station funds may not be enough to finish the fiscal year.

“We gotta stop slashing our budget,” Selectman Angelo Terreri said. “We knew it wasn’t enough but passed it anyway for the sake of keeping taxes down, which I agree with. I don’t want to pay more taxes but the town needs enough money to operate.” 

Selectmen agreed unanimously to have a speed limit study done on Blake Road at the request of Arlene MacDonald. 

The speed limit is 45 mph, which Schaub said seems too fast. 

The Maine Department of Transportation will perform the study for free, and if a speed limit change is deemed appropriate it will be done. 

Schaub said if the study isn’t done but a different speed limit sign is put up, the limit would not be enforceable. 

In other business, the board voted to accept a mowing bid from resident Chip Gilbert for $12,600. The board solicited bids and agreed Gilbert’s was the best.

“It’s the lowest bid and he’s in town,” Selectman Steve Maheu said. 

Chairman Kurt Youland said he was concerned that Gilbert works alone and only has one mower, but still voted in favor. 

Planning Board Vice Chairman Mark Morris submitted his resignation. The board is looking for a replacement.
