DEAR SUN SPOTS: Riverview Dental will hold a “Dentistry with a Heart” Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 11. We will provide free dental care to low-income families and individuals experiencing financial hardship and homelessness, as well as military service veterans. Several dentists, hygienists and dental professionals will donate their services on this day. These appointments are intended for patients who are financially unable to pay for dental treatment, have no dental insurance, have not seen a dentist in more than two years, and are in urgent need of treatment. Appointments will fill quickly, so please call as soon as possible to schedule.

To schedule for a dental cleaning, filling or simple extraction appointment, please call and leave a message stating your name, telephone number and which dental service you are in need of at 207-200-4081. Be sure to speak slowly and clearly. Your call will be returned within a week. Please leave only one message. We will return your call. Thank you, Sun Spots, for helping us get the word out!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Books in good condition are wanted for Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset counties, a nonprofit organization to promote literacy. We are accepting donations from May 15-18, Tuesday through Friday, at the Farmington Elks Lodge on 120 School St. from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Volunteers will be ready to assist you in unloading and there will be donation receipt forms available. The only books we can’t utilize are encyclopedias, technology books, college textbooks or books that are torn, mildewed or water-damaged. We especially cherish children’s books! Please call Literacy Volunteers at 207-500-3131 for more information or to make other arrangements.

ANSWER: Whenever you have books you no longer need, please remember nonprofits, your local library, and your local schools! Many of these organizations don’t have much of a budget for books. Please be sure to communicate with your chosen organization about the quality and type of books to donate. Never just leave your books on the doorstep where weather and insects can get to them.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My husband passed away in May 2017. I would like to put a memorial in the paper, but have no idea where I can find poems, etc. to give me an idea of what to write. Any suggestions?

— No name, no town

ANSWER: I’m so sorry for your loss. The funeral home you used or the church that made the arrangements for your loved one can help you. You can also ask your local librarian help you find something appropriate. There are so many inspiring writings that would fit the situation and bring comfort to you.
