LEWISTON — Michelena M. Provencher, 88, of Great Falls Plaza, and a lifelong resident of Auburn, died Sunday, April 22, at Central Maine Medical Center, with her loving family at her side, after a sudden illness.

She was born in Lewiston on May 15, 1929, daughter of the late Michael and Josephine (Chorzempa) Yurchuk. She was educated in Auburn schools. Michelena married Maurice Provencher on Nov. 4, 1955, and spent almost 55 wonderful years together, until he passed on Sept. 15, 2009.

She was a very caring and generous person, always putting others first. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. She loved having the whole family together.

She is survived by her four children, Dana Kempton and his wife, Mary, of Skowhegan, Joanne Eastburn and her husband, Stephen, of Beverly, Mass., Peter Provencher and his wife, Linda, of Lewiston, and Diane Latham and her husband, Daniel, of Fremont, N.H.; her brother, Walter Yurchuk, and his wife, Marie, of New York; a sister-in-law, Doris Indrysek, of Connecticut; her eight grandchildren, Julie, Beth, Matthew, Heidi, Amanda, Philip, Ryan and Katie; seven great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.
