AUBURN — Kate Albro Bowe Marmaras, of Auburn, 90, passed away peacefully with her family present, Sunday, April 29.

Kate attended Syracuse schools and earned her bachelor’s degree in government from Smith College, Class of 1949. Born Oct. 10, 1927, to Bertha Tuttle Bowe and Chester Howard Bowe of Syracuse, N.Y., Kate worked as a medical social worker at Gouverneur Hospital in New York City prior to marrying John (Jack) Samuel Marmaras, of New Bedford, Mass., in 1958. The couple raised their family in Basking Ridge, N.J., where Kate served on the Board of Education and was an active member of the League of Women Voters.

The family’s 1800s farmhouse in Massachusetts (Barber Hill) remains a favorite place for vacation and a place where the family has worked side by side to preserve a bit of history — a legacy that continues for all of the family thanks in great part to Kate’s and Jack’s commitment.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, who passed away in August 2008; and their son, John Steven Marmaras (d. 1970).

Kate is survived by her sister, Cornelia Tuttle Bowe; two sons, Peter B. Marmaras (Karen) and Nikos C. Marmaras (Rhonda); and daughter, Sarah M. Stocker (Thomas); and six grandchildren, Jessica Stocker Kaake (Ryan), Kurtis John Stocker, Anne Elizabeth Marmaras, Grace Victoria Marmaras, John Spilman Marmaras and Nayana Olivia Shik Marmaras.
