PORTLAND — Companies from across the state were honored recently at the 19th annual Maine Family Business Awards gala.

Presented by the Institute for Family-Owned Business in partnership with Maine Employers’ Mutual Insurance Co., the awards recognize exemplary Maine firms that demonstrate excellence in family involvement, business success and commitment to employees, customers and community. From a record 186 nominations, 39 semifinalists competed for seven awards. An independent panel of judges, facilitated by Maureen Costello Wedge of Sun Media Group, selected the winners from among 24 finalists.

Locally, the Shep Lee Community Service Award, named for one of the founders of IFOB, went to Rinck Advertising, a Lewiston-based advertising agency that has been recognized locally and nationally for its exceptionally creative work and its good work in the community. The company not only donates substantially through pro bono work, but in employee volunteer hours, in-kind services, cash and goods to numerous organizations, particularly in the areas of health, education, arts and culture, and animal welfare.
