TURNER — Voters at town meeting Saturday will vote on a budget that is 4 percent higher than the current spending plan but would be offset by increased revenues, Town Manager Kurt Schaub said.
The budget as recommended by the Budget Committee is $2.77 million; selectmen recommend spending $2.74 million in fiscal year 2018-19. The current budget is $2.64 million.
“The increase is mainly because of an increase in capital reserves,” Schaub said.
He said if townspeople approve the Budget Committee’s recommendation, property taxes would increase by 0.74 percent. On a $100,000 property, that’s an estimated increase of $12 per year.
Growth in valuation and non-property tax revenues have helped to offset the increase, Schaub said.
The meeting will begin with ballot voting for town officers from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Municipal Building and will reconvene at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Leavitt Area High School cafeteria for warrant article voting.
