GRAY — Trained volunteers from the Maine Old Cemetery Association will lead an all-day cleaning workshop on Saturday, June 16, at the Gray Village Cemetery, 12 West Gray Road.

The workshop is being sponsored by the Gray Cemetery Association and is open to the public. However, registration is required due to limited space. To attend the event, complete and submit the registration form, found at https://www.graymaine.org/webforms/gray-cemetery-cleaning-workshop-reg.

This workshop will include a demonstration of correct materials and procedures for properly cleaning gravestones. Registered attendees will have an opportunity for supervised hands-on practice using the skills.

The workshop will use materials and methods approved by the Association for Gravestone Studies (AGS) and by the Maine Old Cemetery Association (MOCA).

Documented direct descendants of any of the persons buried in the Gray Village Cemetery who do not want their ancestor’s stone preserved by this group should contact Galen Morrison before Saturday, June 9. Morrison can also address questions.

The Town of Gray and the Gray Cemetery Association, which cares for the cemetery, has already authorized the work.
