AUBURN — Janet H. Mitchell, 83, a resident of Leeds passed away peacefully at midnight on Wednesday, May 23, at Clover Manor in Auburn.

She was born Feb. 13, 1935, at Stricklands in Livermore Falls, the daughter of Augustus Hood and Cora (Goding) Hood. Janet was a 1954 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. On March 11, 1955, in Livermore, she married her husband of 63 years, Burton M. Mitchell.

She worked as the head cook at Turner Elementary School for many years. Janet and Burton enjoyed wintering in Florida 22 years, where they were very active on shuffleboard and dart leagues; she would chuckle as she would tell her kids that their father was out of the running but she was still playing … Janet also enjoyed dancing and loved following her grandchildren’s events and all the special times with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, and will be deeply missed by her family.

She is survived by her husband, Burton M. Mitchell, of Leeds; children Gwen Palmer and her husband, Steven, of New Gloucester, Mike Mitchell and his wife, Linda, of Minot and Trish Keene and her husband, Jay, of Auburn; six grandchildren, Brandy and Brooke Palmer, Tracey Vining and her husband, Justin, Kevin and Shawn Mitchell, Jackson Keene and his wife, Rachel, and Kristin Bolduc and her husband, Brian; three great-granddaughters, Daisy and Jayna Vining and Vivian Keene; her brothers Augustus Hood of Turner, Richard Hood and his wife, Pat, of Griffin, Ga., and Philip and George Hood of Leeds; and several nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank the staff Androscoggin Home Hospice and Clover Manor for all their care and support.

She was predeceased by her parents.
