LEWISTON — Brodi Farinas’ three-run blast in the first inning to left field provided enough offense for the Lewiston Blue Devils to defeat Oxford Hills 5-1 in a key Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference baseball contest Friday.

Farinas’ homer was one of his two hits on the day. Jack LeBlond provided the other two runs with a RBI double and a RBI single for the Blue Devils (11-4). Brock Belanger had a pair of hits.

Evan Cox and Hunter Landry combined for a two-hitter. Cox went the first five innings and Landry took care of the final two innings.

Janek Luksza had a sacrifice fly for the Vikings (12-3) in the top of the sixth.

Rangeley sweeps Temple

RANGELEY — Senior pitcher Bo Beaulieu struck out 14 in the opener, and junior center fielder Leo Perez collected a pair of hits in each game as Rangeley took a pair from Temple, 6-3 and 7-4, in doubleheader baseball action Friday afternoon.

The Lakers (9-5) set the tone early in both games, scoring four runs in the first inning of Game 1 and another four in the second inning of the second game. Senior first baseman Kyle LaRochelle had four walks in the opener, and tapped a couple of singles in the Game 2.

Michah Riportella had a double in each game for the Barrons (7-8), and pitched five innings in the second game and took the loss.

Wells 11, Poland 3

POLAND — Michael Wrigley had three hits, including a home run as Wells dispatched Poland 11-3 in baseball action Friday.

The Warriors (13-2) scored four runs in the first and led 7-0 after four innings. Tyler Bridge had three hits, including a double, while Gary Andrews furnished three singles for Wells.

The Knights (1-14) posted one run in the fifth inning and rallied for a pair in the bottom of the seventh. Garrett Goss had two of Poland’s four hits in the losing effort.

Softball

Lewiston 7, Oxford Hills 4

LEWISTON — Jordan Mynahan broke a deadlock in the bottom of the sixth with a single that drove in Kallie May as the go-ahead run en route to a 7-4 victory in a KVAC softball contest Friday.

Megan Theriault added insurance runs with a two-run single, also in the sixth. Theriault had three RBIs in the game.

Kori Kahkonen had a two-run home run for the Vikings (12-3) to tie the game at 4-4 in the top half of the sixth. Lauren N. Merrill had a two-run triple in the fourth, and Kaisa Heikkinen had a pair of singles in the contest.

Gemma Landry had two singles and an RBI for the Blue Devils (12-3), while Jordyn Rubin had two doubles in the contest.

Monmouth 3, Carrabec 2

NORTH ANSON — Emily Kaplan and Mariah Herr each had RBI singles with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to help the Monmouth softball team rally past Carrabec 3-2 in a Mountain Valley Conference softball game Friday afternoon.

Monmouth freshman Brooke Rooney tripled in her varsity debut.

Emily Chasse had four strikeouts and walked just one to earn the victory in the circle for Monmouth (10-5). Sam Lebeau struck out six and walked only two for Carrabec (9-6).

Maranacook 4, Leavitt 3

TURNER — Amanda Goucher and Erin Bonefant slapped a pair of hits each as Maranacook grabbed a 4-3 victory over Leavitt in softball action Friday.

Leah Maheux went 3-for-3 with two singles, a double and two runs for the Hornets. Hannah Deblois contributed two singles.

Eagles pitcher Natalie Costa earned the win with a complete game, and Emily Swan took the loss with five walks and a strikeout for Leavitt.

Poland 7, Wells 6

POLAND — Kailyn Eskuri hit a walk-off single up the right-field side to score Kaylin O’Leary as Poland notched a 7-6 victory over Wells in softball action Friday.

Ally Gagne and Shelby LaFrinea contributed a triple each for the Knights (8-7).

The Warriors (10-5) were prolific at the plate, outhitting Poland 10-8. Anya Chase and Sam Bogue furnished three hits apiece in the losing effort.

Girls’ lacrosse

Oxford Hills 19, Edward Little 9

AUBURN — Maggie Hartnett ground out four goals and three assists to power Oxford Hills to a 19-9 triumph over Edward Little in girls’ lacrosse action Friday.

Caroline Burns pitched in with four goals, while Julia Colby and Cecelia Dietrich provided three goals each for the Vikings.

Piper Norcross had three goals and an assist for the Red Eddies in the losing effort.
