KINGFIELD — Voters at the annual town meeting Saturday will decide whether to allow adult recreational marijuana establishments in town.

The meeting begins at 9 a.m. at Kingfield Elementary School.

If the article on marijuana establishments passes, the Planning Board will develop ordinances, regulations and licensing requirements.

The proposed $1 million budget is about $41,000 more than last year. Funding recommendations by selectmen and the Budget Committee vary primarily on requests from citizens’ groups and nonprofit agencies. For example, selectmen recommend raising and appropriating $2,500 for the United Methodist Economic Ministry, while the Budget Committee recommended $3,500.

Voters will be asked to approve annual allocations from the 30-year Tax Increment Financing agreement with Poland Spring Water Co. The agreement reserves a percentage of tax revenue for approved uses in a defined downtown district.

Selectmen and the Budget Committee recommend raising $254,600 and appropriating $6,800 from Tax Increment Financing for the Administrative Account.

Approval for other TIF revenue allocations include $10,000 for the Highway Sidewalk Equipment Account and $25,000 for the Kingfield wastewater system operating budget. If approved, $14,200 will fund the library, historical society, holiday lights, flags, summer planters and Safe Voices’ domestic violence prevention program.

Voters will be asked to approve $57,100 for the Fire Department, $20,000 for the Fire Equipment Account, $258,100 for the Public Works Department and $30,000 for the new Highway Equipment Account.

Revisions to the 2009 Shoreland Zoning Ordinance are also on the warrant.

In municipal elections, Ronk Beedy and Morgan Dunham are seeking the selectman’s seat vacated by Brian Hatfield, who declined to run for another three-year term. There are no candidates for the the seat of outgoing Regional School Union 58 Director Kim Robinson. Nominations can be taken from the floor.
