PARIS — A New Hampshire man was sentenced Thursday morning in Oxford County Superior Court to 71 days in jail for attempting to strangle a woman in a South Paris motel in March.

Eric Knight

Eric Knight, 42, of North Conway was arrested after police received a call about a man and a woman fighting at the Paris Inn motel on Route 26 and the woman throwing the man’s belongings outside.

Paris police Officer Michelle Legare wrote in an affidavit that the woman told police Knight tried to strangle her and broke her phone when she tried to call for help.

The woman had a protection from abuse order against Knight.

Knight was initially charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor domestic violence assault, violating a protection from abuse order, obstructing the report of a crime and violating conditions of release.

However, in exchange for a guilty plea, the state agreed to drop all charges except violation of protection of abuse order and violating conditions of release charges.
