On Thursday, May 31, the Sun Journal ran an article about the city of Auburn researching what needs to be done to the swimming outlet at East Auburn. The article also quoted Auburn officials as saying that the city needs a pool in Auburn.

While not debating that, I want residents of Auburn to know that the YWCA in Lewiston has an excellent pool and offers many classes, free swim, and swim teams. In addition, we offer a single-gender swim program and classes for breast cancer survivors.

Since the YMCA closed its pool, the YWCA has been partnering with the YMCA to provide pool time to their members and swim teams, as well.

The mission of the YWCA is to eliminate racism and empower girls and women. Swimming is an important safety and health issue and is the reason aquatics is a core program of the YWCA. The pool is open to all genders, children and adults.
