PORTLAND — Ken Severy 70, of Durham passed away Thursday May 31, after suffering from a stroke, surrounded by his family and loved ones at Maine Medical Center.

Ken was born Dec. 14, 1947, to the late Donald and Margaret (Bubier) Severy of Wales, Maine.

Ken graduated from Lewiston High School in 1966. He then continued his education at the University of Maine at Orono, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. During college, Ken served four years in the Army National Guard.

While Ken always had a passion for working in the woods, he found his passion for competing in woodsmen meets in college. Ken was skilled in many of the woodmen’s events, his favorite being the underhand chop.

Ken retired from Bath Iron Works in 2014. In his retirement, he enjoyed consulting for Colby Company Engineering in Portland.

When Ken was not working or competing at woodsmen’s competitions all over New England, he was showing off his outstanding dancing skills at Maplewood Dance Center in Portland.
