BAR HARBOR — A 21-year-old Bar Harbor man was charged Monday night with murder in the death of 19-year-old Mikaela Conley whose body was found Saturday near an intersection, Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said.
Detectives from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit arrested Jalique Keene at the Bar Harbor Police Department and took him to the Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth, McCausland said in a news release Monday night.
Conley, also of Bar Harbor, was reported missing Friday, and her body was discovered by a police K9 around noon Saturday at the intersection of Route 3 and West Street.
The death was determined to be a homicide following work completed by the State Medical Examiner’s office that began Sunday and continued Monday. The cause of death is not being released at this time.
Keene will appear in an Ellsworth courtroom either Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on the court schedule, McCausland said.
