AUBURN — Androscoggin County Commission Chairman Zachary Maher announced Wednesday night that he will resign the position in July.

Maher, a 35-year-old libertarian from Poland, told the commission he has accepted the job of town manager in Mechanic Falls.

“I love these guys,” Maher said after the Wednesday night meeting. “I’m going to miss working with them. You get to meet and work with a lot of fun people across the state on the county level.”

Maher, vice president of lending at Community Concepts Finance Corp., had served District 6 on the commission for two years. The district includes Poland, Mechanic Falls and part of Auburn.

He said he will begin as Mechanic Falls town manager in August, succeeding Koriene Low.

Maher’s departure from the commission will allow the Libertarian Party a chance to caucus to find his replacement. His term expires Dec. 31, 2020.
