DIXFIELD — Griffyn Wildes Wayne Smith, 19, of Dixfield passed away Thursday, May 31, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.

Griffyn was born in Portland on Sept. 5, 1998, to his parents, Errin and Cheryl Smith of Dixfield. Griffyn was a 2016 graduate of Dirigo High School and a 2018 graduate of Central Maine Community College, with an associate degree as a precision machinist. He was looking forward to joining the U.S. Navy in the fall.

He was known for his infectious laugh, his one-of-a-kind smile, his dimples and his quick and funny wit. He was loyal to his friends and family and was also a fierce competitor. Throughout his school years, Griffyn’s passion was wrestling, beginning when he was only in kindergarten. He had been a five-time champion from eighth grade to his senior year in high school and wore his Dirigo colors with pride, but at the same time was a humble team player. Griffyn was a household name in high school wrestling with impressive stats, and was an inspiration to fellow wrestlers all over the state. Throughout his high school career, Griffyn achieved 193 wins, and 162 of those wins were pins.

Griffyn will be sadly missed and is survived by his parents Errin and Cheryl Smith of Dixfield; two brothers, Zachary Moore of Portland, Reilley Lombardi and his loving sister, Sayge Smith, both of Dixfield. He is also survived by his fraternal grandparents Wayne Smith and Cynthia Smith, both of Florida; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends he considered family.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Priscilla and Stanley Doughty Jr., and his uncle, Eric Smith.
