AUGUSTA — Robert Paul Marquis, 76, formerly of Livermore Falls, passed away Friday, June 1, at the Togus VA Hospice Center. Robert was diagnosed with inclusion-body myositis (IBM), a debilitating muscle disease, in 2004.

He was born in Livermore Falls on July 27, 1941, the son of Paul E. Marquis and Noella S. (Dumais) Marquis.

Robert served in the U.S. Navy from July 16, 1959, to Feb. 6, 1978; he retired as a CPO. Robert served and traveled in several countries while aboard the USS Saratoga. He earned excellent marksmanship while serving in the Navy. He was a lifetime member of the NRA.

Robert and his wife, Priscilla (Jackson) Marquis, were married on March 22, 1960, and raised three children.

Robert was a loving family man who enjoyed woodworking, bluegrass and old country music, horseshoes, cribbage and shuffleboard, and was a huge New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. He and his wife enjoyed hosting picking parties with pig roasts several times a year and ran the fan club for the Blistered Fingers band for six years. Robert traveled to all of the bluegrass festivals he could with his wife and best friends, Bob and Ava.

Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years; daughter, Barbara, and her husband, Brian Scott, of Livermore Falls; son, Michael, and his wife, Charlene Marquis, of Livermore Falls; and daughter, Kathleen Marquis, and her fiance, Eric Turner, of Dover-Foxcroft. He had five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and his devoted companions Brandi, Anha and Kya.

Robert’s family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses and staff at the VA Center in Togus for their excellent care of Robert and the wonderful support they provided to our family.
