PARIS — Haley Dillingham hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning and Lauren Merrill gave up one hit as second-seeded Oxford Hills shut out seventh-seeded Mt. Ararat 12-0 in a Class A South softball quarterfinal Thursday.

Merrill pitched a shutout and also had a double for the Vikings. Kenzie Kohkonen got Oxford Hills rolling in the first inning with a single that drove in two runs. The Vikings then received two RBI singles, from Brooke Carson and Kaisa Heikkinen, in the second.

Holly Temple had Mt. Ararat’s only hit.

Gray-New Gloucester 4, Poland 3

GRAY — Alie Martel hit a home run in the first inning and pitched a complete game as second-seeded Gray-New Gloucester defeated seventh-seeded Poland 4-3 in a Class B South softball quarterfinal Thursday.

After Martel’s homer, the Patriots scored a run in the second and third innings thanks to a Alexa Thayer double in the second and a Martel double in the third. In the pitching circle, Martel recorded 10 strikeouts and only gave up three walks.

Poland was led by a home run from Karley O’Leary. The Knights also received a double and a single from Kailyn Eskuri. Pitcher Ally Gagne struck out four in the loss.

Buckfield 12, Temple 0

BUCKFIELD — Julia Dow threw a one-hitter as third-seeded Buckfield shut out sixth-seeded Temple 12-0 in a Class D South softball quarterfinal Thursday.

Buckfield jumped out to a three-run lead in the first and never looked back. The Bucks added four in the third inning thanks to doubles from Cara Merrill, Cassidy Hart, Hannah Shields, Carly Trimm and Madison Hodgdon. Buckfield tallied 13 total hits on the day.

Buckfield did not commit any errors and only gave up one hit, to Temple’s Faith Rossignol.

Baseball

Mountain Valley 12, York 7

YORK — With a 7-4 lead, Fischer Cormier hit a three-run home run to put the game out of reach in fifth-seeded Mountain Valley’s 12-7 win over fourth-seeded York in a Class B South baseball quarterfinal Thursday.

Cormier was not the only one on offense getting things done for the Falcons, as Jacob Blanchard and Dylan Desroches each had three hits, with Desroches hitting a home run of his own.

York jumped out to a two-run lead, before Mountain Valley scored three in the second. York took back the lead in the third, but the Falcons scored a total of nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings, and held the lead until the end.

York was led by Tim McDonald and Dawson Gundlah, who both homered.

Oxford Hills 10, Skowhegan 0, 6 innings

SOUTH PARIS — Emery Chickering doubled and tripled and Janek Luksza doubled twice and knocked in a pair of runs as second-seeded Oxford Hills crushed seventh-seeded Skowhegan 10-0 in six innings in a Class A North quarterfinal.

Cam Slicer and Ashton Kennison also drove in two runs apiece for the Vikings (14-3). A seven-run second staked starting pitcher Colton Carson to a 9-0 lead. Carson left after three innings, during which he allowed one hit and struck out eight. Troy Johnson closed it out with three innings of three-hit relief.

Lisbon 6, Monmouth 4

LISBON — Seventh-seeded Monmouth put three runs on the board in the top of the first, but it was not enough to hold off second-seeded Lisbon, as the Greyhounds defeated the Mustangs 6-4 in a Class C South quarterfinal baseball game Thursday.

Lisbon committed two errors and let a ball pass the catcher to give up three runs in the first, but scored two of its own in the bottom of the inning. Nick Austin scored in the first and hit a single in the second inning that drove in a run. Greyhounds pitcher Lucas Francis hit a double to drive in a run in the fourth, and also pitched a complete game with five strikeouts.

Monmouth scored its final run in the fifth, via a passed ball. Nick Divinski was taken out in the fourth inning after giving up four runs and striking out two. Trevor Flanagan took over for Monmouth and gave up two runs.
