AUBURN — Katelyn Breton of Auburn is this year’s recipient of the Women’s Literary Union’s $500 scholarship.
A 2018 graduate of Edward Little High School, Breton will attend Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall to pursue a degree in American Sign Language/English interpretation. She plans to work in elementary education.
Breton said she understands that hearing-impaired individuals face roadblocks in communicating with others not familiar with sign language, and plans to be that bridge by breaking down the language barrier.
The Women’s Literary Union was incorporated in 1909 to further the intellectual, cultural and educational advancement of its members and the community.

Scholarship recipient Katelyn Breton, second from right, stands with her parents, Michael and Michelle Breton, and Dorothy Bowyer, chairperson of the Woman’s Literary Union education committee, far right.
