Schooner Estates “The Longest Day” Events for the Alzheimer’s Association on Thursday, June 21st

Auburn, Maine – Among the charities that the staff and residents at Schooner Estates Senior Living Community regularly raise money for, the Alzheimer’s Foundation is a favorite. “Everyone who lives or works here has been touched by dementia,” Says Mark Prevost, Director of Resident Services. “Our residents and employees like to feel they are making a difference in these issues, and this is one that hits so close to home for our population.” For the past several years, Schooner Estates has participated in a number of fundraisers for the national organization, including pancake breakfasts, formal teas, and the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s in the fall. This year, however, is the first year where they are participating in The Longest Day, a national event organized by the association on the summer solstice every year.

The Alzheimer’s Association has been organizing fundraising events on the solstice since 2012. The date was chosen to symbolize the struggle that Dementia patients and their caregivers deal with on a daily basis. “For those facing Alzheimer’s every day is the longest day,” said Angela Geiger, Chief Strategy Officer of the national organization. “The Longest Day honors the strength, heart and endurance of people with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. We want to demonstrate in a meaningful way that they are not alone.”

On Thursday, June 21st, events will be held to fundraise across the country. Schooner’s will fundraise for the company’s team to donate to the association at the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s, happening on Saturday, September 15th starting at Simard-Payne Memorial Park in Lewiston. This Thursday’s events will start in the morning with a Make-Your-Own Breakfast Burrito Bar and continue through the day, into the night with an Antique Car Show, Campfire, and Cookout. The public is invited to all events, and the full schedule is as follows:
