BRIDGTON —  The Bridgton Community Band, celebrating its 80th season, will present a lively, free concert of new music each week, through Aug. 8, under the direction of its new conductor, Steven Sweetsir

At 7:30 p.m., July 3, the band will perform a rousing selection of patriotic songs and other music, at the Stevens Brook Elementary School. Fireworks will follow.

Beginning Wednesday, July 11 and continuing through July 18 and 25, the Community Band concerts will be held at the Bridgton Public Library courtyard at 7 p.m. Band members are hoping the new “downtown” location will attract larger audiences.

Although Church Street will be closed to traffic during the July concerts, concertgoers may drive to the parking lot behind the library before the concert begins. Seating will be available directly in front of the library on the sidewalk and parking spaces, and the street area adjacent to The Rufus Porter Museum. Be sure to bring a chair. In the event of rain, the concert will move to the gazebo behind Rite Aid.

On Wednesday, Aug. 1 and 8, concerts will resume at the Stevens Brook Elementary School in the gazebo.

Any musicians interested in playing with the band are welcome to join in rehearsals at 7 p.m., Mondays at the Stevens Brook School.
