PORTLAND — Trevor Fleurent, who won the 2010 Travis Roy Award at Biddeford High School as the outstanding high school senior hockey player in Maine, has signed an ECHL contract with the Maine Mariners.

Fleurent is one of four signings announced Wednesday by Portland’s newest minor-league franchise, which begins play this fall at Cross Insurance Arena. All four have New England connections.

Fleurent, 26, remained in Biddeford for college at the University of New England, where he scored 50 goals in 101 games with 66 assists. He played professionally in Norway last winter.

“Trevor put up some big numbers at the University of New England,” said Mariners coach Riley Armstrong in a prepared statement, “and we are looking for him to show us the same thing coming into training camp in October.”

Joining Fleurent will be former University of New Hampshire defensemen John Furgele and Matias Cleland and former University of Connecticut defenseman Derek Pratt.

Furgele, 25, recently finished his collegiate career at Quinnipiac University after two seasons in Durham with UNH. He is native of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania.

Cleland, 24, has played for three ECHL clubs (Wheeling, Orlando, Reading) since wrapping up his UNH career in 2017. He is from Longmont, Colorado.

Pratt, 24, played four years at UConn and skated in five ECHL games this spring, for South Carolina and Manchester. He is from Mount Hermon, Massachusetts.
