As a senior and a veteran, I am gravely concerned about the massive tax breaks that were passed in Congress this year, and who will pay for them. Medicare was created in 1964 by Lyndon Johnson and since then it has been the target of potential cuts. Some have called Medicare socialism and Republican leaders in Congress, including Paul Ryan, have said it was their hope to end the program. So many Maine seniors depend on Medicare for health care coverage. I fear that Congress will take steps to weaken this critical program, as they have already taken steps to take health insurance away from everyday people.

My congressman, Bruce Poliquin, supported the tax cuts — giving money to billionaires and giant corporations, while voting to cut the Affordable Care Act. I am supporting Jared Golden for Congress, who will stand with Maine seniors and veterans and will fight for health care for everyone.
