HEBRON — Tyler Swanbeck of Hebron has been named the 2017-2018 Scholar All-America Player of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches Association. Swanbeck was a United Soccer Coaches Fall High School All-Region selection. He led his Hebron Academy team to their second consecutive New England title, capping off a 36-game unbeaten streak that spanned the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Swanbeck will be honored for his accomplishments on January 12, 2019 at the United Soccer Coaches Convention All-America Luncheon at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Swanbeck graduated from Hebron Academy with a 3.9 GPA and ranked in the top 3% of the senior class.

“Swanbeck is a well-deserving candidate and we are thrilled for him,” said Hebron’s Athletic Director, Leslie Guenther. “He has clearly excelled on and off the field, and he personifies the core values of Hebron Academy. We are extremely proud to have this young man represent our program.”

“I would like to thank God for allowing me to play this beautiful sport and my family for all that they have done for me,” Swanbeck said. “Also, I greatly appreciate my teammates, coaches, and teachers, for without their support and encouragement this award would not have been possible. Finally, thank you to Mr. Hakopian and the rest of the US Soccer Coaches Association for providing me with this tremendous honor. I will be sure to uphold the high standards that this award represents.”

Swanbeck will do a postgraduate year at Phillips Exeter Academy before attending college. Schools hailing from the Ivy League, Big Ten, ACC, Pac-12, WAC and Patriot League have all expressed interest.
