Lewiston landlords are not against increasing code enforcement efforts. We just don’t want it done at our expense. If there is a need, it should be taken out of general funds. There will be a lot of hidden costs to this proposal, such as additional staff and equipment to record all transactions.

I disagree with Jay Allen about a $36 cost is not enough, but I agree with him that the program should have “teeth.” Nonprofit groups that have three, four, five hundred apartments, church groups, religious groups, and colleges should not be exempt. The one-apartment landlord should also not be exempt, and no one should get a free ride. It should be done fair and right (no TIFF) for anyone.

Lewiston landlords are tired of footing the cost for all the nonprofit groups.
