LEWISTON — The personal finance website WalletHub has ranked Lewiston eighth on its list of best-run cities in America in its 2018 report.

The website, which publishes annual rankings on a variety of topics, formed the list based on a city’s “operating efficiency” by comparing the quality of services residents receive to the city’s total budget.

In its effort to determine the effectiveness of local leadership. WalletHub compared 150 of the largest U.S. cities based on their operating efficiency, according to a news release from the website.

For each city, WalletHub created a “quality of city services” score — with many performance indicators grouped into six service categories — that was then measured against the city’s total per-capita budget.

According to WalletHub, Lewiston ranked 61st in financial stability, 113th in education, 75th in health, 26th in safety, 65th in economy, 29th in infrastructure and pollution and eighth in total budget per capita.
