BRUNSWICK — Police say the fox killed by an officer Friday after attacking four people has tested positive for rabies. Cmdr. Mark Waltz said police got the test results Tuesday morning from the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Friday shortly after 3:30 p.m., police were notified that a five-year-old girl on Moody Road had been attacked and bitten by a fox, along with her mother as she defended the young girl.

The fox is believed to have made its way down Moody Road, attacking a chicken, a dog and two other people before authorities caught up with it and shot the animal.

In a separate incident, Waltz said a skunk found on Range Road Sunday also tested positive for rabies. It doesn’t appear that the skunk was involved in any human interaction.
