When George was honorably discharged from the Navy, they drove back to Maine, bought a home and settled in Hanover where they raised their four sons.

Mary was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior and was a member of the choir for 25 years. In her younger years, Mary enjoyed cross-country skiing with her husband George. She also enjoyed family gatherings, cooking for the holidays, sewing and traveling. Besides crossing the country twice, they made many trips to Canada.
