LEWISTON — An estimated 600 people gathered at Geiger Elementary School to honor the memory of a loved one at Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice’s annual Butterfly Release Celebration on Sunday, Aug. 5.

The event is a way for families to remember loved ones who have passed, as well as raise money for patient care at Androscoggin’s Hospice House.

Guests shared memories and had the opportunity to listening to music, play in a kid’s craft area and have light refreshments. The highlight of the celebration was the reading of names of all dedications, culminating in the release of more than 600 butterflies.

This year more than 450 butterfly dedications were sold at $30 each. Between dollars raised through dedications, sponsorships and a raffle, Androscoggin Home Healthcare and Hospice raised $25,975, an increase over previous celebrations.

Proceeds from the Butterfly Release Celebration fuel the organization’s mission to never turn away a patient due to inability to pay. The Butterfly Release Celebration directly benefits patient care and family support services at Androscoggin’s Hospice House.
