MEXICO — A West Paris man suspected in 10 burglaries over 18 days was still at large Monday afternoon, according to Police Chief Roy Hodsdon.

Hodsdon said an arrest warrant was issued Friday for Heith Bernard, 41, of West Paris on charges of burglary, theft and violation of conditions of release.

“He’s still hiding from us. We hope to arrest him by the end of the week,” the chief said. We’ve been looking for him around the clock. We’ve exhausted all our leads for him at this point. Just hoping someone will see him or we’ll find him.”

The chief asked that residents keep their houses secured and contact the Police Department at 207-364-5686 if they see Bernard or have information related to him.

Hodsdon said police believe the 10 burglaries — from July 26 to Aug. 13 in and around Swett Avenue and Ledgeview Street — are all related because they were within half a mile of each another. Cash was taken in most of the break-ins.

Bernard was booked Aug. 7 at the Oxford County Jail in Paris, charged by Dixfield police with burglary and possession of burglary tools, and on Aug. 13 by Mexico police on a charge of violating bail conditions.
