SOUTH HIRAM — Avery Lutrzykowski scored four goals, including the winner on a breakaway to snap a 3-3 tie with less than three minutes remaining as the Saints won their girls’ soccer opener at South Hiram.

Lindsey Hendricks and Lakyn Hink scored to give Sacopee Valley a 2-0 lead. Allie Black added another to make it 3-3.

Abigail Castonguay had two assists for the Saints.

Mt. Abram 5, Madison 0

MADISON — Camryn Wahl netted a hat trick Thursday to lead Mt. Abram to a 5-0 win over Madison. Alice Cockerham and River Horn also tallied for the Roadrunners to complete the scoring.

Madison Phelps chipped in with three assists for Mt. Abram in a solid offensive effort.

Mt. Abram jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first half and was never challenged.

Maranacook 5, Leavitt 0

READFIELD — Emily Harper’s hat trick led the Black Bears to a season-opening victory in Readfield.

Harper scored in the 11th and 32nd minutes to help Maranacook take a 4-0 halftime lead, then added the third in the 49th minute. Kate Mohlar and Winter Webb also had goals, while Mohlar, Katie Ide (two) and Kaylee Jones had assists.

Skye Webb stopped 10 shots for Maranacook. Shelby Varney stopped 17 for Leavitt.

Oxford Hills 2, Edward Little 2

PARIS — Grace Fontaine and Hannah Smith each scored a goal for Edward Little on Thursday as they hustled to a 2-2 tie with Oxford Hills in an early-season girls’ soccer matchup.

Cassidy Dumont and Bella Devivo found the net for Oxford Hills in the first half.

Alexandra Annear made seven saves for Edward Little, while Jillian Douglass turned aside three shots between the pipes for Oxford Hills.

Winthrop 10, Dirigo 0

DIXFIELD — Aaliyah WilsonFalcone and Jillian Schmelzer both scored twice to lead the Ramblers to the Mountain Valley Conference girls’ soccer victory in Dixfield.

Sara Condon, Avery Silva, Kena Souza, Hannah Eason, Natalie Frost and Jillian Taylor also had goals for Winthrop (1-0). Brooke Burnham made two saves.

Boys’ soccer

Freeport 4, Gray-NG 1

GRAY — Will Winter scored two goals in the first half, and Jake Dumont and Wes Goodwin added one apiece in the second as the Falcons won their boys’ soccer opener at Gray on Thursday.

Nick Pelletier scored, and Brannon Gilbert and Kyle Curtis combined for nine saves for the Patriots.

Mountain Valley 3, Wiscasset 1

RUMFORD — Garrett Garbarini led a trio of players to record goals Thursday as Mountain Valley rolled to a 3-1 early-season boys’ soccer victory over Wiscasset.

Will Sorensen and Alexi Rodriguez also tallied for the Falcons (1-0-0) to complete the scoring. Tim Shappelle tallied the lone goal for Wiscasset (0-1-0).

Kyle Kenney made five saves for Mountain Valley, while Caleb Gabriel turned aside 13 shots for Wiscasset.

Field hockey

Gray-NG 1, Cape Elizabeth 0

CAPE ELIZABETH — Tiffany Ha’s goal provided all the scoring as the Gray-NG (1-0) field hockey team debuted with a slim victory over the Capers (0-1) on Thursday.

Christiana Pinette had 14 saves in net for Cape. Mack Baston turned away six for the Patriots.

Erskine 1, Leavitt

TURNER — Olivia Kunish found the net in overtime to give Erskine a 1-0 victory over Leavitt in an early-season field hockey tilt Thursday.

The Hornets (0-1) outshot their opponents 10-2 yet fell short of putting one in the net.

Yarmouth 3, Poland 1

POLAND — Lydia Guay scored twice in the first half and added an insurance goal after the break as Yarmouth hustled to a 3-1 early-season field hockey victory over Poland on Thursday.

Brianna Doucette scored for the Knights (0-1) to prevent a shutout.

Cayte Tillotson made 12 saves for Yarmouth, while Ashton Sturtevant turned aside six shots for Poland.
