OXFORD — A Norway man was seriously injured Friday when he fell off his skateboard onto Route 26, Oxford police Sgt. Rickie Jack said.

Richard Pierce, 28, was listed in fair condition early Saturday morning at Maine Medical Center in Portland, a nursing supervisor said.

Pierce was riding a one-wheel skateboard in the travel lane near NAPA Auto Parts when he fell and struck his head on the pavement at about 4:30 p.m., Jack said. He said Pierce was not wearing a helmet and was bleeding and combative when police arrived.

Oxford Fire and Rescue took him to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, from where he was flown to the Portland medical center.

Jack was assisted by officer Zachary Bisson.
