I am a disabled veteran of the United States Marine Corps. I am glad to have served my country for six years; however, I have been struggling with chronic pain for seven years. I have to depend on only the Veterans Administration for my health care, and it is completely frustrating. There are long waits for appointments when a veteran is sick or needs a specialist.

In general, veterans have many health care needs beyond what the VA can provide. I have lost many of my friends because they didn’t get the care they needed.

The Affordable Care Act has helped many veterans get the care they need. I fear that the man President Trump has nominated to the Supreme Court will work to dismantle the law. Brett Kavanaugh has a history of attacking access to health care and wants to repeal the pre-existing condition part of the law.

I hope that Sen. Susan Collins votes to protect the ACA and Medicaid by rejecting Kavanaugh’s nomination. If appointed to the court, I am concerned that he would try to dismantle the ACA and take away health care that is vital to veterans.

Sen. Collins should vote “no” on Kavanaugh’s nomination to help make sure that no veteran, no Mainer, has to be in pain every day.
