LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library and the experts from Rainbow Bicycle and The Bruised Boutique Skate Shop will hold a free workshop on bicycle and skate maintenance Saturday, Sept. 15. It is for all ages.

Rainbow Bicycle will be at the library from noon to 1 p.m. to talk about the ins and outs of maintaining bicycles. Attendees can learn how to make minor cable adjustments to shifting and brakes, what to watch for when hearing creaks, squeaks and grinding noises, and how to change a flat.

The Bruised Boutique Skate Shop will be at the library from 2 to 4 p.m. to help people get the most out of their skates. Presenters will cover everything about skates and how to eke out every drop of performance and efficiency. They will examine every aspect of various boots, plates, wheels, bearings and toe stops on the market and how to match them to a person’s individual skating style.

Bruised Boutique will address some common misconceptions about current roller derby skates and gear. Topics include: comparing plates by weight, the pros and cons of mounting styles (standard vs. short/forward etc.), the heat moldability of various boots, comparing wheel urethanes, when to regroove wheels, bearing ratings and helmet certifications.
