Barefoot in Maine

By Nancy Ann Schaefer

All pain and pleasure is where you put your attention.

—Deepak Chopra

along pale pebbled beach

cool saline breeze

lone seagull screams

blue waves

ripple coastline —

all blur into now

under sun-high sky

over clastic rock:

with each step forward

with each step lifted

This up-down rhythm

— superb duet

this journey

of moments

already arrived.
