FARMINGTON — Senior Citizens Day at Farmington Fair is a time to see old friends, check out the exhibits, eat fair food and see the animals.

Peggy McDonald and Barbara McDonald, both of Jay, were two of many from around the state enjoying the fair Tuesday.

They enjoy looking at the exhibits and supporting the Franklin County Agricultural Society at the same time, Barbara McDonald said.

“You get to see people you haven’t seen in years,” Peggy McDonald said.

Doug and Priscilla Mosher of Livermore Falls continued their walk around the fairgrounds after a break sitting on a bench outside the hall.

“I came up to see the exhibits, the oxen pull and get some food and then I go home and collapse,” Doug Mosher said with a smile.

Their daughter is a member of the Chesterville Grange, Priscilla Mosher said.

Several Granges and other organizations have displays of fresh and canned vegetables, fruits and homemade items.

Jeanette Hutchinson and her husband, Dave, of Weld talked with Carlton Clark of Anson. 

“I don’t get to see him very often,” Jeanette Hutchinson said of Clark as the three reminisced. 

“I enjoy it,” Clark said. “My wife is coming later.”

People milled around the Agriculture Museum looking at equipment and antiques. 

Outside the building, Jeff O’Donnell of Farmington, the museum curator, was taking to Paul Anderson of Rome about a large grindstone.

“It is very interesting,” O’Donnell said. 

A lot of folks come who have worked with the equipment and tell him stories about how it worked, he said. “I get to hear the operating stories.”

The grindstone “is very large and was not used to sharpen kitchen knives,”O’Donnell said. Whatever it was used for it was very heavy industrial work, he added.
