FARMINGTON — A local man is accused of assaulting a police officer who tried to get him off the track during a truck-pull contest at the Farmington Fair on Thursday night.

Alfred R. McCrillis, 65, of Farmington was arrested on a felony charge of assault on an officer, Deputy Police Chief Shane Cote said.

McCrillis was “allegedly extremely intoxicated,” Cote said.

Police officer Jesse Clement and a family member tried to remove McCrillis, but McCrillis pushed Clement and refused to leave. Officer Brandon Sholan joined the effort before the combative McCrillis was eventually arrested, Cote said.

McCrillis was taken to Franklin County Detention Center and was to be released Friday to appear in court Oct. 27.

A conviction on a felony assault charge is punishable by up to five years in prison.
