100 Years Ago: 1918

Everyone is to be depended upon to help make the gathering of material for gas-masks a success. The Community Chorus pledged its support through Captain Stiles, who was one of the most enthusiastic speakers at the meeting held at the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce, last night. Local fire stations are to asked to serve as concentration stations and stores throughout both cities are to be receiving stations for small quantities. An able team of men and women was organized.

50 Years Ago: 1968

The Woman’s Literary Union will open the new fall meeting season on Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Elm Street, Auburn club-house. Arlyn E. Barnard of Portland will present an illustrated talk on Hong Kong.

25 Years Ago: 1993

The Opportunity Farm for Boys invites the public to its annual Fall Open House on Oct. 3 from noon to 4 p.m. Each year during harvest time, the public is welcome to visit, meet the staff and trustees, eat and tour the working farm. There will be hay rides, squash and pumpkins to take home, hamburgers and hot dogs, chicken barbecue from 1 to 4 p.m., pony rides, cider and doughnuts, craft tables and face-painting. The farm is located 4½ miles from Gray, just off Route 100 in New Gloucester.
