AUBURN — June (Fitts) Bowman, 87, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 28, at her home in Auburn with her family by her side.
She was born May 28, 1931, in Mechanic Falls, the daughter of Ernest M., and Phoebe Fitts. She was educated in local schools and after marriage she worked in the lab at International Paper Co., Marcal paper mill and later in retail in Lewiston. She married Llewellyn H. Bowman Jr. on Nov. 7, 1947.
June was involved in the Auburn Senior Community Center for many years and she poured her time into sewing and making various crafts for the annual fair at the Auburn United Methodist Church and at the Barker Mill Arms Apartments, where she resided the last 15 years. For years she was known for her fudge, which she loved to make and share. She was active in the Mechanic Falls VFW Auxiliary
She is survived by her son, Llewellyn H. Bowman III, and his wife, Sue, of Milton, Wis.; her daughter, Deborah L. Farrar, of Venice, Fla.; her son, Dana L. Bowman, and wife, Laurie, of Freeman Township; and her stepdaughter, Lisa (Ellery) Wing, of Fryeburg. She had six granddaughters, Melissa Keebler, Stephanie Cooper, Rebecca West, Sarah Scheffel, Danielle Bowman, Nicole Bowman; two grandsons, Joshua Farrar and Jonathan Bowman; as well as six step-grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Llewellyn, of 40 years, and William Ellery of 15 years; her son, Jeffrey L. Bowman (wife, Betsy), of Christiana, Tenn.; as well as two brothers, Linwood and Ernest Fitts; and her sister, Beverly (Fitts) Billings.
A family graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Androscoggin Home Healthcare + Hospice, 15 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, ME 04240, or the American Heart Association, 51 U.S. Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074.
