OXFORD — The Board of Selectmen voted Thursday to establish a committee to review the condition and adequacy of municipal buildings and submit its findings to selectmen.
The unanimous decision was based on a recommendation by Town Manager Butch Asselin, in response to concerns about mold, moisture and other problems at the Town Office.
The members of the committee, to include two selectmen, three others from the community and Asselin, will be decided at the next board meeting Nov. 1.
Three selectmen — Scott Hunter, Samantha Hewey and Chairman Floyd Thayer — have asked to be put on the committee.
The board also voted to change the sewer ordinance to eliminate the requirement that homeowners tie into the public gravity sewer system if their septic has failed and they are located within 150 feet of the public sewer pipe.
The proposal allows for an appeal for homeowners who are 300 feet or more from the road but for some reason cannot tie into the sewer system.
The proposed changes to the sewer ordinance must be given a public hearing and be put to a vote at a town meeting.
The board agreed it must get more people to hook into the gravity public system so the town can pay for the loan on the treatment plant. Selectmen also said they want to allow for an appeal process for those who wish to challenge the tie-in requirement.
In other matters, selectmen approved:
• Approved Susan Milligan as a ballot clerk.
• Authorized a restaurant liquor license renewal for the Ocean Pearl.
• Approved the Anderson Staples American Legion request to conduct a toll road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 10 at the corner of King and Skeetfield roads to support the Legion’s veterans outreach programs.
