As a Vietnam War era veteran, I know the commitment it takes to serve the country. Bettyann Sheats has demonstrated her commitment by serving in the Armed Forces and representing Auburn in the Maine House.

A West Point graduate, she served as an Army helicopter pilot in Germany and Fort Drum, New York. In 2016, she was elected to serve Auburn for House District 64.

Sheats deserves to be re-elected because she puts action behind her words of support for veterans. She introduced legislation to expand the Veterans Treatment Courts and to provide needed funding for the only women’s veterans homeless shelter in Maine. She supported legislation to help working veterans have better access to VA medical appointments and much more.

She has worked with the Maine Military Community Network, coordinating efforts of various organizations that support active military, national guardsmen, veterans, and their families.

I will vote for her on Nov. 6.

Andre Roussel, Auburn
