Antonio Sylva Brousseau

1926 – 2018

AUBURN – Antonio Sylva Brousseau, 92, of Auburn, passed away on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018. After fighting a courageous battle with cancer, he died at home under the loving care of his companion Barbara Hill. Antonio was born in Lewiston on July 20, 1926 to Silva and Yvonne Roberge Brousseau.

He attended Jordan Grammar and Lewiston High School. Tony first worked at Bath Iron Works for a year before joining the U.S. Army. He served as a PFC from 1943-1946 during World War II. 1946 Tony married Joanne M. Dube at St. Peter’s Basicillica. The couple had four children and were married 31 years. In 1953 Tony became a member of the Lewiston Fire Department and served as a Firefighter from 1953 until 1972 when he then became a Dispatcher for the department. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant on January 31, 1989.

In 1978 Tony married Marilyn Mae Moore. Marilyn and Tony had 21 happy years together until she passed away in 1997. Mr. Brousseau enjoyed being part of his community and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church most of his adult life. He was a member of the Maine Association of Fire Fighters and the Maine Appalachian Trail Club, for which he completed several projects. He also belonged to the Androscoggin Fish and Game Association from 1946 until the present and was a Charter Member of the Sportsman Alliance of Maine since its inception. A cherished memory was in 2015 when he took part in Honor Flight New England. He joined Bob Dole and other veterans in Washington, D.C., to commemorate their heroics at the WWII memorial. Later in life, Tony met a very special lady who became his significant other. Both had lost their spouses and their friendship blossomed. He and Ms. Barbara P. Hill have shared their lives since 1998. His remaining years were spent in Auburn with Barbara, and their many friends that would gather in the mornings at Panera Bread.

Tony is survived by his children Michael and his wife Doris of Sarasota FL, Linda Pelletier of Sabattus, Gary of Queens, NY, Carl and his wife Mary of Standish, his significant other Barbara P. Hill and her children Lisa, Wendy, and Cy, special friend Joe Hogan, siblings Roland L. Brousseau, Robert H. Brousseau, Joline Landry, Lorraine Hart and Paul Roy. Also surviving  are his two granddaughters Amy Servidio and Beth Matthews of Lewiston, three great grandchildren Dalton Farnum, Rafferty Wing and Remy Matthews. This gentle man will be sadly missed. Mr. Brousseau was predeceased by his first wife, Joanne, his second wife, Marilyn, his parents, his brothers Richard Brousseau and Lionel Roy and his sister Cecile Roy Woods.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11 a.m.,  at Gracelawn Memorial Park, in Auburn.
