The first nor’easter of the season is expected to arrive mid to late Saturday morning and bring cold rain, a wintry mix and snow to Maine.

In southern areas, it will drop a chilly rain. Inland areas will see a wintry mix and some snow.

The rain from this storm is from the remnants of Hurricane Willa, which hit Mexico earlier this week.

WHEN

• Rain/Snow/Mix develops mid to late Saturday morning and extends through Saturday night.
• Rain and mountain mix will taper to just showers by Sunday morning.

TYPE

• Chilly rain for the coastal plain.
• Inland and mountains will hold onto snow/mix the longest.
• Freezing rain may become an issue in the mountain valleys into Saturday night.

WINDS

Winds will be strongest Saturday afternoon and evening. Frequent gusts 30 to 40 mph expected. Peak gusts Saturday afternoon and night should get into the 40 to 50 mph range at the immediate coast, peninsulas, and islands.

The good news is weak branches probably already broke in recent storms, and there are not as many leaves on the trees. There is a good chance of scattered outages though evening and early night.

COASTAL FLOODING

Tides are running astronomically high this weekend. We are watching the 1:22 pm Saturday tide and 2 am Sunday tide for possible minor flooding, splash over, and beach erosion.
