Karon Dee Breton

1948 – 2018

GORHAM – Karon Dee (Merkle) Breton, 70, of Lewiston peacefully passed away on Nov. 5, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Gorham with her loving family by her side, including her dog, Prince.  She had been recently diagnosed with cancer. She was born in Farmington on May 15, 1948, the daughter of the late Francis and Dorothy (Dolloff) Merkle. She grew up in the Livermore Falls area and attended local schools there. She was a graduate of Livermore Falls High School. Karon also received a medical secretary degree from the Auburn Maine School of Commerce.

On Aug. 18, 1970, she married Gaetan Breton Sr., and they shared 52 wonderful and memorable years together. Karon was the beloved mother to Charlene and Gaetan Jr., and was a stay-at-home mother until she began working as a school bus driver for Hudson Bus Lines, eventually retiring after 26 years of service. Karon loved driving her “kids” and served as a surrogate grandmother to many children in her neighborhood. Prior to retiring, Karon and Gaetan enjoyed camping every summer at Taylor Pond.  She was an avid cross-stitcher. Many of her friends and family are recipients of her cross-stitched cards and gifts. She will be deeply missed.

Karon is survived by her husband, Gaetan Breton Sr. of Lewiston; her children, Charlene Malone of Gorham and Gaetan Breton Jr. of Bath. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Kyle and Zachary Breton; her sister, Cindy Parker of Cabot, Arkansas; her sister and brother-in-law, Rene Morin Jr. and Pauline Morin; along with a niece and several nephews.
